[Title is in honor of my favorite and most edible niece, the OG JFB Muse, Sophia.]
At 13 years old my mom slapped me with a 4-step face routine. Since then, at teeth-brushing time, I cleansed, toned, serum(ed) and moisturized. My products were toxic for sure, but at that time we had no clue. Nonetheless, the importance of skincare was always stressed in my family. So when Junk Free Beauty was conceived, I was excited yet very reluctant. I had put so much energy into curating a toxic routine that worked for me and I didn’t want to start again.
Before our opening, my sister Gloria started opening accounts with luxury Green Beauty brands, like Dr. Alkaitis and Kari Gran. The whole JFB clan (men included) quickly became tester bunnies.
My reactions to the new products went something like this:
*When pumping Kari Gran’s Cleansing Oil on my hand, trying to figure out how it worked*
A cleansing oil? How can oil CLEAN my face???
*When we first got Josh Rosebrook’s Hydrating Accelerator*
A spray toner? Shouldn’t it be burning my face? Shouldn’t I feel it peeling a layer of skin off???
*When testing Kosmatology’s Lemongrass Face Oil*
Oils for a moisturizer? Aren’t I asking for pimples?
All of these things were extremely confusing to me. Everything I had learned about drying out the oily skin and peeling off blackheads had to be thrown out the door.
Over this whole year, I clearly realized the immense benefits that came with treating your skin the natural and non-toxic way. My face never felt irritated. I’m way more gentle with my skin and my face, hands and body are more moisturized and hydrated than ever.
Now that I’ve come out on the other side, I’m going to share some of my favorites with you. Here goes:
- White and Elm Deep Pore Cleansing Oil:
This cleansing oil has thick texture and smells like peanut butter.
I hated it for the first 5 months that we carried it, but now it’s my nighttime go-to. It takes off all of my makeup and all the dirt that builds up on my throughout the day. It leaves me feeling so plump and supple, especially in this drying weather. To learn more about this product and its ingredients, click here.
- White and Elm Balancing Facial Toner:
I am already on my second bottle! This chamomile toner is so calming and gentle on the skin. It smells like lemon tea, and is very hydrating. I put this on a cotton pad and wipe it all over. You can also spray it directly on your face. To learn more about this product and its ingredients, click here.
- Odacite Serums (all of them!):
These potent blends of oils target specific issues on the face. I have one for pimples , one for clogged pores and another for hyperpigmentation. They aren’t too heavy and they absorb pretty quickly in the skin, which I love. So far the results haven’t let me down! Named with the first letters of their active ingredients, each serum contains raw materials that directly target a specific skin issue. 4. Josh Rosebrook Vital Balm
Anyone who knows me knows that I love everything Josh Rosebrook! His thin yet moisturizing balm smells like green tea. It applies smoothly like a balm but finishes lightly like a cream. It has healed so many dry spots on my face. I know this one is going to carry me through the rest of my Junk Free life. To find out more about Josh’s one-of-a-kind Vital Balm, click here.
These products took me a while to get used to, but my skin has been dewier and more revitalized than ever.
[NEVER going back to that St. Ives itchy and irritating apricot scrub!!!].
I am so grateful to be a part of the Junk Free Beauty journey. Look out for more reviews from me soon. Makeup is coming up next!
Till next time,
