Makeup Overhaul

I know my daughter just posted about taking small steps. And believe me, I am queen of slowly paced. But lately, I’ve been compelled to just overthrow my entire, junk-filled vanity once and for all.
How do I justify throwing away thousands of dollars worth of skincare and makeup? It’s been about 4 months since I’ve used it. I’ve been living off the few clean products I’ve bought recently from great stores in NYC: Credo and Cap beauty.
I’m in a conundrum. I love looking at the beautiful compacts and creams by Chanel, YSL, Tom Ford.. some are truly works of art. And the Louboutin nail polish! So beautiful it belongs in a museum!

so pretty…but so, so toxic.
But… after reading SO much on this topic..discovering all the fragrance, phthalates and carcinogens, plasticizers and preservatives that are put in these products to make them so beautiful and creamy…I actually have no desire to rub any of it on me. Which is kind of sad for me since I used to LOVE doing my makeup. I love me a smokey eye… it’s just that knowing that 85% of eyeshadow contains traces of harmful metals (lead, cobalt, nickel, chromium, sometimes arsenic), it kind of loses its appeal.
I’ve heard “beauty is pain”, but “beauty is poison”? I don’t think so.
The beauty industry keeps using words like “traces” or “tiny amounts” but the truth is that we really don’t know that, because no one is really watching and safeguarding the products.
What if we don’t want ANY lead in our lipstick or eyeshadows??
So. I’ll leave my makeup in my vanity drawer tucked away, while my few clean products sit openly in a lucite box.
For now…
